A little over a week ago, a storm that brought a lot of snow to the New York/New Jersey area, brought a lot of wind to parts of New England. One of the hardest hit areas was Manchester, NH, where the roof of the building holding the Saga stations was damaged. Apparently the damage to the roof also caused damage to the building's sprinkler system which then flooded the building with a few inches of water. Here's a video taken by an employee there showing the extent of the damage. Enjoy new IDs today from the 4 stations that are housed in that building, along with several others from Manchester.

Our Toppy survey of that area isn't complete, but it moves one step closer this week with a batch of AM IDs from the summer of 2008. There's more to come, too: FMs from that trip, which I'll post next week, and then another big, big round of IDs from a visit that Bill and I made together in September 2009.

And there's one more matching Tower Site of the Week installment for your enjoyment, surveying the AM sites of Carlisle, PA, over at fybush.com!

This week features a bunch of "drive-thru" clips which were recorded on our trips between Baltimore and Rochester, NY over the past couple of years. The market spotlighted this time is "Elmira," one of those spread-out markets which includes several smaller sub-markets. For those who are unaware, Elmira et al is located in the middle of New York's Southern Tier.

Enjoy!

From Elkridge, Maryland, the 2009-2010 unofficial snow capital of the USA, not including mountain areas.

(I am sure here in Elkridge, unofficially we have had over 100 inches of snow fall this year so far. Baltimore-Washington International officially broke the 80 inch total barrier last week.)

Normally during the winter months E Skip propagation is not all that common, and when it does happen, usually it's just for a few minutes. However, on January 31st and February 1st, mother nature had other ideas. Both of those days, I had great openings to Florida, and some stations from the midwest as well. I was able to catch IDs from WOCL in Orlando and WUFT-FM in Gainsville.

Also, from an area with much different weather (although is has been a cold winter in Florida!) enjoy some new IDs from the Northern NH-Northeast Kingdom VT area as well as Portsmouth.

That about sums up the way most of us in America's Usual Snow Capital feel this week as we watch our friends and neighbors down in DC, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania (Hi Bill!) get buried under the snow that usually comes our way this time of year without benefit of screaming national news headlines. (For the record, we had "a dusting" here in Rochester today.)

There was no snow, of course, in July and August 2008, when we recorded a whole bunch of IDs down there in the markets adjoining Washington and Baltimore. This week, we add to the pile with some specimens from Annapolis MD, Wilmington DE and Hagerstown MD-Chambersburg PA.

(And we have more tower pics over at Site of the Week, too!)
