It's another two-headed beast of a Toppy update this week: from the "ongoing clearing out of the backlog" pile come more Dayton, Ohio IDs from 2010, tied into our Tower Site of the Week series which continues on Friday at fybush.com. (There's a fair amount of history here already - since I recorded these, WCDR and its affiliates have been swallowed up by K-Love and WDKF and WLQT have swapped dial positions.)

And from the "spinning format wheel locally" pile comes another round of changes at Clear Channel here in Rochester. This time it's the oft-flipped (9 callsigns, at least 11 formats since 1997) station at 107.3 on the dial, which ditched sports WHTK-FM on Monday and relaunched as oldies WODX. We have the last and the first IDs here, and the whole flip, such as it was, is over at FormatChange.com.

This time around we feature several clips of stations in the Charlottesville Market which I recorded last fall. Not much has been recorded from this market in the past so these are mostly new to Toppy, including one for Scott, WCCA-LP 93.5 in Scottsville. More from this market next time.

It's a little of everything this week, as long as you're into midwestern industrial grit.

We start with the subject of last week's Tower Site of the Week, Lima, Ohio, where we have a pretty complete run of the market from several 2010-2011 visits. (There's a bit more yet to come from more recent trips, including WCIT 940's flip from oldies back to talk.)

Then we head south on I-75 to Dayton, where we get to hear some of the AM dial as it sounded in the summer of 2010.

And we wrap it up back home in Rochester, where WFXF 95.1 flipped from one prefab format ("The Fox") to another similar one ("The Brew") earlier this week. We have an ID from a few hours after that flip for you.

What can you say about Toledo? They have a cool minor-league baseball team, and a really good hot dog joint, and a whole bunch of radio stations that we keep speeding past on the way to or from Fort Wayne. This week, we present more IDs gathered on repeated trips through northwest Ohio, all tied in to this Tower Site of the Week installment.

This week saw the demise of yet another of Family Radio's commercial allocations following the sale of 106.9 WKDN Camden, NJ to the Randy Michaels led Merlin Media. Here we feature the final ID of the station at 11:00pm last Sunday as well as an ID of the station using its new WWIQ calls.

Also in this update are other assorted Philadelphia ID's from my collection including our first archiving of stations using the WLCE, WPLY, WPTP, WXXM, and WZGO calls.

This week we present the final installment of Bill's Big Trip to Washington in 2011.

The two markets we will be looking at are Moses Lake and Wenatchee Markets. There are so close to each other and have overlapping coverage that they could almost be considered to be one market. However, for the purposes of Toppy we have chosen to split things.

Most of the clips are refreshes with one clip from a station new to Toppy - KDRM 99.3 in Moses Lake.

I am not sure what we will feature next week, but I am sure will find something in our archives.

But in the meantime, it's another Tower Site of the Week tie-in: audio from several runs through Toledo and nearby Sandusky over the last few years, including the transitions of 1520 (WDMN/WNWT) and 1560 (WTOD/WWYC). Over at Tower Site of the Week, we've just kicked off a recap of a big 2010 trip we took around western Ohio and Indiana - and that means multiple Toppy installments, too.

This week, it's a collection of Cleveland IDs recorded during our many passes through town in the last few years. You'll hear the newish "Lake" (WHLK 106.5), the even newer progressive talk format on rimshotter WABQ 1460 (with a whole bunch of dead air deleted), a legal ID from Spanish-language east suburban rimshot WHWN (88.3) that took something like five tries, and the now-defunct "V-107.3" AAA format on WNWV (107.3), among other things.

And then next week, we'll be presenting Toledo IDs while we're in Las Vegas. Holy cognitive dissonance, Batman!

This week we feature the Yakima Washington Market. Like last week, the recordings were made at the Rye Grass Summit between Vantage and Ellensburg. There are three stations that are new to Toppy.

These cuts are labelled Poughkeepsie, but they're actually from the area along the river north of Poughkeepsie, from Kingston up to Hudson, almost all the way to Albany.
