The Windy City: Part 1
I happened to be in Chicago for a couple of days earlier this week, finding myself there to attend, of all things, a Tuesday afternoon wedding involving a good friend of mine who I worked with in my TV news days in Tampa who now lives in Seattle.
With less than 48 hours total spent in the Windy City, I found myself with a challenge, trying to record as much radio as I could, especially many of the plentiful HD2/HD3 stations in the city.
I did my best, and part one from the trip is now up on the Chicago page. Take a listen to the newly flipped Spanish WNUA, the pair of AM stations that I landed that also have HD side-channel simulcasts on the FM dial, and the legal ID from the outstanding HD2 dance music station "B-96 Dance" on WBBM-FM-HD2.
Next week: a listen to a couple of stations that have made the move from a primary FM signal to an HD2 side-channel.

Can you record IDs from WLS 890, WSCR 670 and WBBM 780?
Unfortunately I did not have an opportunity to record any of the stations listed. Both WLS and WBBM have HD2 simulcasts on FM sister stations (WLS-FM-HD2 and WCFS-HD2, respectively), but I didn't record either during my visit (only so many hours during the trip). WSCR is reportedly about to begin airing on WJMK-HD3, though that wasn't up and going through midday Wednesday, the last time I checked before leaving town.
But there are plenty of people in Chicago with radios and recording devices, and hopefully we can obtain those IDs at some point. There's not much I can do to record them from here in the Nashville area, though.
So, there's gonna more from The Windy City or it's gonna be from another area like " (city nickname): Part 2" ? (ex. "The Magic City (Miami): Part 2"
Look for two more Chicago updates in the past two weeks. Plenty of HD2 and HD3 fun from there (for the first time ever on this site).
past two weeks = next two weeks
Do you know which stations?
Yes, I know the station. But, being the seasoned TV/radio veteran that I am, I know a bit about the art of the tease. Gotta check in on Sunday to see what stations are going up (and I'm not sure what I'll put up this Sunday vs. next Sunday).
Okay, I'm not really that much of a prick. Look in the next update to include the newly-relocated WNUA smooth jazz from its new HD2 home, as well as the WJMK Oldies format that moved to HD2 when Jack FM came to town four years ago. The rest I haven't decided on yet. All of the legal IDs remaining for me to put up are from HD2 or HD3 stations that aren't AM simulcasts.
After the windy city, what's the next place you'll be?
For what it's worth, I just sent Brian a whole bunch of stuff from *my* recent visit to Chicago, including WIND, WSCR (which I will continue to think of as WMAQ, thank you very much), WGN, WBBM, and WMVP. No WLS, though -- the signal from Tinley Park, even with 50 kW, just doesn't penetrate downtown hotel buildings.
I look forward to hearing your new IDs, Garrett.
As for me, Roland, I live in the Nashville area. No big market trips on the horizon, unfortunately.
Lou, what about Nashville IDs from WWTN and from WLAC?
There are IDs for WLAC and WWTN on the Nashville page, though I'll be glad to add another WWTN ID on there if there is interest in hearing a new one (the most recent, from last year, reflects the station's new city of license (Hendersonville) after Cumulus made COL changes for a number of its Nashville stations in an attempt to improve the signal for ESPN 106.7). The most recent WLAC legal ID is from earlier this year and reflects the station's simulcast on WNRQ-HD3 (which is where I recorded the signal from, thus the non-"AM scratchy" audio quality of that ID).
No wonder I heard the FOX News Radio sounder so clear! Anyways Lou, if you have another ID from WWTN or from WLAC, just feel free to let me know ASAP
