Just a quick update this week (hey, it’s July, after all, and we’ve got some traveling on the agenda) – a few IDs from a 2010 visit to Springfield, Massachusetts, which is also featured this week and next in Tower Site of the Week.
A few things of note in this week’s update: the WHMP 1400 ID includes an oddity – the very, very brief use of “WNND” on its simulcast station on 1600 in East Longmeadow/Springfield. Those calls were parked in Springfield for just a few days in 2010, so briefly that they don’t even appear in the FCC’s callsign history for the station, but they happened to be on the air when we drove through. (The station quickly returned to the WHNP calls it’s still using, while the WNND calls went to a Saga FM station in the Columbus, Ohio market.)
The update also includes one of Saga’s HD2/translator combos, “Hits 94.3” from WLZX-99.3 HD2, and the then-fairly-recent call change on the former WMAS 1450, now WHLL. Why those calls? Because the studios are at the Basketball HaLL of Fame, right in Springfield!
