This week, we feature some clips of AM stations from the The Emerald City. And no, we are not talking about the Land of Oz. We are talking about Washington State’s largest city – Seattle. I grew up in Spokane, Washington, and we always felt like Spokane was the little brother to Seattle, and perhaps we were. But Seattle has a lot of interesting history, and a lot of neat things to see and do.
There is even a song first sung by Perry Como entitled “Seattle.” The song states that the “bluest skies you’ve ever seen are in Seattle.” That can be true, if you ever encounter a rare cloudless day. The song Seattle is the title theme of the late 1960’s television show called “Here Come the Brides.” The show took its inspiration from actual historical events. A man named Asa Mercer brought a number of young women from New Bedford, MA to Seattle to marry the “female-starved” lumberjacks in Old Seattle. Of course the writers of the TV show took a lot of liberties when writing the script.
By some accounts, the term “skid row” came from Seattle, but I digress….
I have some FM clips from Seattle which I will post at a future time.
