…especially when the format wheel is spinning. And how often do you get two simultaneous, unrelated format changes on the same AM dial?
It happened here in Rochester right after Labor Day: Entercom went from progressive talk to ESPN on WROC 950 at the same moment that Crawford was signing off the short-lived Christian contemporary format just up the dial on WRCI 990, reborn the next morning as religious WDCX.
We’ve got audio of both flips this week – but wait, that’s not all!
And across the Keystone State in the Philadelphia market, Greater Media flipped smooth jazz WJJZ to “Now” adult contemporary earlier this week. Thanks to the miracle of streaming audio, we have the last smooth jazz ID, and we’d have the first ID from the launch of “Now,” except that there wasn’t one, at least not that we heard.
(We’re reminded, too, that the Pittsburgh IDs in particular could use some love; fortunately, we’ve got a stack of tape from our Labor Day excursion to the Steel City that will eventually find its way up on the site.)
